This box set contains twelve multi-part plastic 28mm Templar Knights, engineered by Fireforge Games for the Deus Vult (“God Wills It”) series. Molded in high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) gray plastic, these figures represent the elite heavy cavalry of the Knights Templar—formally the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon—during the high point of the Crusades. The kit is fully modular, featuring interchangeable heads, shields, and weapons to allow for extensive unit customization in historical systems like SAGA or fantasy systems such as Warhammer: The Old World and Oathmark.
Inside the Box:
- 12 Mounted Knights: Multi-part plastic figures with dynamic posing options.
- 1 Command Frame: Specialized components to assemble officers, standard bearers, and musicians.
- 2 Knight Frames: Core trooper sprues with a vast array of weaponry and heraldic options.
- 3 Barded Horse Frames: Armored mounts featuring flowing caparisons for elite heavy cavalry.
- 2 Unbarded Horse Frames: Lightly equipped mounts ideal for representing lower-ranking brothers or varied unit types.
- Technical Spares: A wide variety of weapons (lances, swords, maces, flails), shields (heater and kite), and ornate head variations.
Historical Background:
Founded in 1119 and headquartered on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the Knights Templar became one of the most skilled fighting units of the Crusades. Recognizable by their distinctive white mantles adorned with a red cross, they operated as a massive multinational entity, managing finance and fortifications across Europe and the Holy Land until their dissolution in 1312. Their legacy as the “Order of Solomon’s Temple” remains a cornerstone of medieval military history.
Kit Tips:
- Basing Strategy: Use 25mm x 50mm bases (not included) for “Rank and Flank” systems; these allow your knights to be placed side-by-side in tight formations while remaining compatible with skirmish movement trays.
- Sub-Assembly Advantage: For the highest quality finish, assemble the horses and the knight riders as separate sub-assemblies; this ensures you can paint the interior of the surcoats and the horse’s flanks without obstruction.
- Seamless Bonding: Utilize a thin liquid plastic cement (like Tamiya Extra Thin) to create a chemical weld between parts, ensuring that the heavy lances and modular arms remain securely attached during tabletop play.
- Priming for the Temple: Since the Templars are defined by white mantles, we recommend a light gray or white spray primer; this reduces the number of coats required to achieve a clean, opaque finish before applying the iconic red cross heraldry.
Templar Order Color Palette
For the most historically accurate results on Fireforge plastic, we recommend the following color stages:
- The Mantle (The White): Start with a Light Gray base and layer up to a Pure White, leaving the gray in the deep folds for natural shading.
- The Templar Cross (The Red): Use a bold, flat Red for the crosses on the shields and surcoats; a fine-point brush is essential for sharp, clean edges.
- Plate & Mail (The Steel): Apply a dark Polished Steel to the helms and armor fittings, followed by a dark wash to define recessed details.
- Leatherwork (The Brown): A warm Mid-Brown is recommended for the saddles, horse tack, and belts to contrast against the white cloth.
Note: Figures are supplied unpainted and require assembly; glue, paint and bases not included.
