The Legend of Zelda is a video game series created by renowned game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and produced by Nintendo. The action of the games in the series takes place in a fantasy setting. The series is one of Nintendo’s flagship brands. By 2017, the series included 19 official games released on all major Nintendo game consoles, and several offshoots. The games in the series have sold over 70 million copies in total. In 1989, the American animation studio DiC Entertainment released the animated series “The Legend of Zelda”, which is based on the events described in the first two games of the series. Comics and manga have also been released based on the game series.
