Hail Caesar: Early Imperial Romans Testudo

On those few occasions when the mighty legions of Rome were outfought or outwitted on the battlefield it often spawned greater Roman innovation, technology, or tactical skill.

When pelted with sling shot, spears, or arrows by the enemies of Rome across the known world, Rome came up with the answer – the testudo!

A whistle blown, shouted commands, and the legionaries formed the ‘tortoise’, a legendary formation where all troops protected themselves with an interlocking ‘shell’ of scutum shields that enabled them to survive incoming missiles, before moving to the assault!

This testudo comes complete with grim-faced legionaries, arrows to pepper your scutum shields, and a stern centurion keeping the formation going!
