Hyper Dyne Side Arms Special is a horizontal-scrolling shoot ’em up that casts the player as Lieutenant Henry in the “Alpha” flying mecha suit to defend Earth against the hostile alien Bozon empire. This single-player NTSC-J port distinguishes itself from the original arcade and HuCard versions by including both the standard arcade-style campaign—where players can carry multiple weapons and switch between them via a sub-menu—and the exclusive “Before Christ” mode, which features a charge beam mechanic, exclusive enemies, and a checkpoint-based respawn system. Throughout the fast-paced, high-difficulty action, players collect power-ups to upgrade their “Mobilsuit” speed and weaponry, and can pick up “Alpha” icons to dock with a support ship for powerful 360-degree attacks
