AV Poker: World Gambler is a niche gambling simulation released for the PC Engine (HuCARD) in 1992. The game is notable for being an unlicensed release by Games Express and thus occupies a rather unique place in the platform’s catalogue.
Gameplay is straightforward: you bet, get dealt a five-card hand, select which cards to hold and draw, and then win if you match a poker hand. The game also offers a “Special Mode” where you travel around the world to show off your gambling skills, and fruit-machine style mini-games unlock special cards.
Bonus note: This release includes adult-themed imagery (female characters in various states of undress) as was common in some of Games Express’s titles.
