For the uninitiated, it follows the story of Alexandra Roivas, who is investigating her grandfather’s murder and discovers an ancient book called the Tome of Eternal Darkness. As she reads through the book, players take control of multiple characters throughout history, each with their own story and unique abilities, as they battle against an evil force known as the Ancients. The game is known for its nonlinear storytelling, innovative gameplay mechanics, and the “sanity meter” which simulates the mental deterioration of the player character, resulting in various disturbing effects.
