In this game, the protagonist and his friends gain the ability to summon demons via a cell phone app called Nicaea after witnessing videos predicting their own deaths. Thrown into an apocalyptic scenario where mysterious alien entities known as the Septentriones appear daily to destroy Japan, they join a secret government organization, JP’s, to fight for survival. The narrative unfolds over a strict seven-day period, with the player’s critical decisions influencing who lives, who dies, and ultimately, which of the multiple paths the world’s fate will take. The Record Breaker edition for the Nintendo 3DS includes a brand new, fully-voiced bonus scenario, the “Triangulum” arc, that takes place after the events of the main game, essentially offering a second full-length campaign.
Core Gameplay and Story:
- Tactical RPG Combat: Grid-based, turn-based strategic battles with a three-person team system (leader and two demons).
- Demon Recruitment: Acquire new demons through an in-game auction system.
- Demon Fusion: Fuse two demons to create a new, potentially more powerful one, inheriting skills and boosted stats via “Add-Ons”.
- Skill Cracking: Designate and defeat specific enemies in battle to “crack” and learn new skills for your human characters.
- Fate System: A social link system where deepening bonds (Fate ranks) with allies provides combat advantages (e.g., skill sharing) and influences the story’s multiple endings.
- Multiple Endings: Player choices throughout the game lead to several different story outcomes and endings, adding significant replay value.
- Permanent Character Death: Choices and actions have consequences, with potential for main characters to die permanently if certain conditions aren’t met
