Inuyasha: Sengoku Otogi Kassen is a 1-on-1 anime fighting game based on Rumiko Takahashi’s hit series Inuyasha. The story centers around 15-year old high school student Kagome Higure, who inadvertently slips back in time to feudal Japan, where she becomes embroiled in a quest to locate shards of the Sacred Jewel of the Four Souls. “Feudal Fairy Tale,” the game’s main mode of play, follows this escapade and requires players to engage in a series of battles and mini-games in order to obtain the coveted shards. Initially, only Kagome and her half-demon companion Inuyasha are playable, but as players journey through the game, acquiring shards, more characters become available.
Each character is able to perform both strong and weak attacks, as well as throws and counter attacks. Players can also execute more powerful combination maneuvers, including special and super attacks, which can only be initiated when the Spiritual meter is filled. Additionally, specific attacks can cause opponents to drop shards that, once claimed, will fill the Spiritual meter more quickly.
“Versus Fairy Tale” allows players to fight against a single opponent, either human- or computer-controlled. Similarly, “Dream Fairy Tale” offers play against a human or computer opponent, but here each fighter is aided by a second character that can be switched into and out of play, as in such titles as Marvel Vs. Capcom and Tekken Tag Tournament. “Myoga’s Training” provides for those who wish to practice their fighting skills, while “Shippo’s Seven Changes” offers a handful of game options. Lastly, the “Backpack” mode features unlockable artwork and allows players to alter character voices, play mini-games, and listen to the soundtrack and voice-work from the game.
You battle through fields, forests, demon lairs, and village areas, fighting iconic series characters as you collect shards of the Sacred Jewel (Shikon no Tama) and confront familiar enemies.
