This box set contains twelve multi-part plastic 28mm Teutonic Knights, engineered by Fireforge Games for the Deus Vult (“God Wills It”) series and part of the Military Orders Colletion.
Molded in high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) gray plastic, these figures represent the elite heavy cavalry of the Teutonic Order—formally the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem—during the 12th and 13th-century crusades. The kit is fully modular, featuring interchangeable heads, shields, and weapons to allow for extensive unit customization in historical systems like SAGA or fantasy systems such as Warhammer: The Old World and Oathmark.
Inside the Box:
- 12 Mounted Knights: Multi-part plastic figures with dynamic posing options.
- 3 Figure Frames: Consisting of 1 Teutonic Knights Command frame and 2 Teutonic Knights frames.
- 6 Barded Horse Frames: 12 armored mounts in charging stances.
- Technical Spares: A wide variety of weapons (lances, swords, maces), shields, and ornate head variations.
- Command Suite: Dedicated components for a standard bearer and a musician.
- Basing: Includes 12 rectangular 25mm x 50mm plastic bases.
Historical Background:
Founded in Acre c. 1192, the Teutonic Knights served as a formidable military order protecting Christians in the Holy Land and the Baltics. Their iconic heavy cavalry, marked by the black cross on white surcoats, was the spearhead of medieval military power.
Kit Tips:
- Basing Strategy: Use the included 25mm x 50mm bases for “Rank and Flank” systems; these allow your knights to be placed side-by-side in tight formations while remaining compatible with skirmish movement trays.
- Sub-Assembly Advantage: For the highest quality finish, assemble the barded horses and the knight riders as separate sub-assemblies; this ensures you can paint the interior of the surcoats and the horse’s flanks without obstruction.
- Seamless Bonding: Utilize a thin liquid plastic cement (like Tamiya Extra Thin) to create a chemical weld between parts, ensuring that the heavy lances and modular arms remain securely attached during tabletop play.
- Priming for White: Since the Teutonic Order is defined by white surcoats, we recommend a light gray or white spray primer; this reduces the number of coats required to achieve a clean, opaque finish on the barding.
Teutonic Order Color Palette Recommendations:
For the most historically accurate results on Fireforge plastic, we recommend the following color stages:
- Surcoats & Barding (The White): Start with a Light Gray base and layer up to a Pure White, leaving the gray in the deep folds of the Fireforge sculpt for natural shading.
- The Teutonic Cross (The Black): Use a flat Matt Black for the iconic crosses on the shields and surcoats; a fine-point brush is essential for the sharp lines of the Ordo domus Sanctæ Mariæ.
- Plate & Mail (The Steel): Apply a dark Polished Steel to the great helms and armor fittings, followed by a dark wash to define the recessed details.
- Leatherwork (The Brown): A warm Mid-Brown is recommended for the saddles, horse tack, and belts to contrast against the white barding.
- The Mounts (The Horse): Use various shades of Brown, Bay, or Black for the exposed heads and legs of the horses to add unit variety.
Note: Figures are supplied unpainted and require assembly; glue and paint not included.
