Grabbed By The Ghoulies is a spooky, comedic beat-’em-up adventure from Rare, made in their transition era between Nintendo and Microsoft. Filled with haunted mansions, cartoon horror, and slapstick energy, the game features the studio’s signature personality: expressive animations, humorous sound design, and a cast of charming weirdos.

You play as Cooper, a teenager who stumbles into the sprawling and cursed Ghoulhaven Hall to rescue his girlfriend Amber. Inside, every room becomes a set-piece battle as you punch, kick, and improvise with chairs, picture frames, pool cues, and other environmental props to fight off ghoulies such as:

• Imps

• Zombies

• Pirate ghosts

• Vampire hunters

• Living furniture

Combat is simple, fast, and built around dual-stick controls, emphasizing movement and punch direction. Challenges include survival waves, timed room escapes, puzzle obstacles, and boss encounters that evoke Rare’s playful 90s spirit.

The art direction is storybook horror, leaning toward exaggerated expressions over realism, giving younger audiences a spooky-but-fun tone similar to Luigi’s Mansion.
