The year is 2048 AD. In Russia, the evil Grand Master Meio has begun his insane plot to take over the universe. A lone figure drops from a stealth glider into Meio’s base. He is Hiryu, Super A-Class Strider. His mission is to defeat the Grand Master and put an end to his plotting once and for all.
Strider lets the protagonist run, jump, perform acrobatics and climb walls and overhangs. He wields a plasma sword, called a Cypher, through five levels fighting robots and guards, with mid- and end-level bosses.
Strider Hiryuu on the PC Engine Super CD-ROM² is an ambitious adaptation of Capcom’s arcade classic, featuring anime-style cutscenes, CD-quality music arrangements, and a re-worked stage structure that blends arcade platform-action with a slight adventure progression feel.
While not a direct arcade-perfect port, this version emphasizes story presentation and cinematic flair, giving Hiryu’s mission a more narrative tone as he infiltrates futuristic fortresses, icy regions, sky bases, and mechanized strongholds to confront the Grandmaster.
The PC Engine version also introduces:
-
voiced story sequences
-
additional dialogue scenes
