The Neo Geo CD turns even its loading times into a “luxurious moment,” but this particular unit is clad in an even more special dignity. That’s right—it comes together with the time capsule known as the “box,” which has sealed within it the memory of the moment it was born.

“One-hundred mega shock!!”

The moment that gruff voice echoed from our CRT TVs, a new king was born in our gaming history. Its name: the Neo Geo. It was the legendary console that genuinely realized the outrageous and incredibly romantic dream of “bringing the excitement of the arcade right into your home.”

SNK’s passionate desire to bring the coveted Neo Geo to more people led them to adopt the then-popular CD-ROM format instead of expensive ROM cartridges. Thanks to this, the graphics are arcade-perfect, pixel for pixel. Truly top-class.

However, in exchange, it was gifted a certain “personality.” Yes, the now legendary, almost comically long loading times.

Being able to brew and finish a cup of tea between matches in a fighting game. This is not a flaw. This is a “sacred time” gifted to us by SNK to calm our minds and prepare for the next battle. (Or so I choose to interpret it.)

It may not be very kind to the impatient people of today. But it teaches us that to get to the ultimate moment, the time spent “waiting” is also a form of luxury.

[A Note on Maintenance: Taming Its Weaknesses]

The Neo Geo CD has another famous weakness. It is the fragility of the D-pad on its unique controller. It sometimes couldn’t withstand the intense command inputs required by fighting games.

Rest assured. Our professional staff is fully aware of this weakness. The controller we deliver has been internally inspected and reinforced, with special maintenance performed so that it will not fail you anytime soon.

The long load times, the slightly quirky controller… all of it is part of the personality of this lovable machine called the Neo Geo CD. Please, accept all of it for what it is.

The console, manual, and box all have matching serial numbers.

The console has some scuffs and scratches. The POWER button is discolored (yellowing).
Both controllers have minor surface wear.
Includes the instruction manual, official power adapter, and cables.

The protective styrofoam case has some damage.
The box shows signs of wear, including edge wear, scratches, creases, tears, and peeling.
